Project Overview

This project focus entails the fabrication and erection of heavy structural steel frameworks. When working on large-scale construction, precision is vital. The steel members must be cut to exact lengths, and all welded connections must achieve full penetration to handle significant load-bearing requirements.

Typical Applications

Structural steel assemblies are commonly utilized in constructing new industrial units, mezzanine floors, portal frame buildings, and commercial extensions where vast open spans and high structural rigidity are required.

Materials Involved

Such projects typically rely on heavy-grade carbon steel elements, including Universal Beams (UB), Universal Columns (UC), and large Rectangular Hollow Sections (RHS). Thick steel base plates and gussets are often integrated to reinforce joints.

General Fabrication Considerations

Working with thick structural sections requires correct joint preparation, such as beveling edges, to ensure root penetration. Pre-heating may be necessary for exceptionally thick components. Ultrasonic or magnetic particle testing considerations are also factored into the welding process to ensure flaw-free joints. Weight logistics and safe transport to the construction site are planned comprehensively.

Project Process

The workflow begins with reviewing engineering drawings and site surveying. Materials are then procured, cut, and drilled. The fabrication phase involves welding the primary connections, followed by surface treatment (such as galvanizing or intumescent painting). Finally, the steelwork is transported and erected on-site, aligning columns and bolting or welding the final joints.
