Project Overview
A highly restorative fabrication project focused on repairing severely worn or damaged heavy plant equipment. The primary goal is to address metal fatigue, impact damage, and extreme abrasive wear common in intensive industrial, earthmoving, and agricultural settings.
Typical Applications
This service is crucial for rebuilding excavator buckets, reinforcing loader arms, repairing cracked machinery chassis, and applying hard-facing to crusher jaws or undercarriage tracks to extend their operational lifespan.
Materials Involved
Repairs heavily rely on high-tensile low-alloy steels, specialized wear-resistant steel plates (such as Hardox variants), and customized hard-facing welding electrodes designed to withstand severe impact and friction.
General Fabrication Considerations
Extensive surface and material preparation is required. This often involves carbon arc gouging or heavy grinding to completely remove fatigue cracks before fresh welding can begin. Pre-heating heavy sections is frequently necessary to prevent thermal shock and hydrogen-induced cold cracking in the newly repaired zone.
Project Process
The damaged component is first assessed, and all fatigue zones are clearly marked. The compromised metal is gouged out to healthy base material. Deep multi-pass welding techniques (often utilizing high-amperage Arc/Stick or flux-cored MIG) are used to rebuild the structural integrity. Finally, a cross-hatch pattern of hard-facing weld is overlaid on areas exposed to the highest abrasion.
